Om. I bow to Lord Ganesha.

|| Vinayoga (Ritualistic Application) ||
Om. To recite the Aditya Hridaya Stotra, the sage is Agastya, the meter is Anushtup, and the presiding deity is Lord Brahma. This hymn is recited to attain the knowledge of Brahman and overcome all obstacles and achieve victory in all endeavors.

Om. We meditate on the supreme light of the divine Sun, which illuminates the three worlds. May that divine light inspire and guide our intellect.

|| Karanyasa (Application to Body) ||
Om. Salutations to the one who possesses rays (Rashmimata) – to the thumb.
Om. Salutations to the one who rises (Samudyate) – to the index finger.
Om. Salutations to the one worshipped by gods and demons (Devasura Namaskritaya) – to the middle finger.
Om. Salutations to the one called Vivasvan (Vivasvate) – to the ring finger.
Om. Salutations to the radiant one (Bhaskaraya) – to the little finger.
Om. Salutations to the Lord of the universe (Bhuvaneshvaraya), who resides on the back of the hand (Karatala) – to the palm and back of the hand.

Verse 1:
ततो युद्धपरिश्रान्तं समरे चिन्तया स्थितम् |
रावणं चाग्रतो दृष्टवा युद्धाय समुपस्थितम् ||

Translation:
Afterward, seeing Ravana standing in front, weary from the battle and engrossed in thoughts,
Lord Rama, with the divine beings, approached the battlefield.

Verse 2:
दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम् |
उपागम्याब्रवीद् रामगस्त्यो भगवान् भगवांस्तदा ||

Translation:
Approaching the battlefield, accompanied by the divine beings, to witness the battle,
Sage Agastya, the revered one, then spoke to Lord Rama.

Verse 3:
राम राम महाबाहो शृणु गुह्यं सनातनम् |
येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसे ||

Translation:
O mighty-armed Rama, listen to the eternal secret
by which, my child, you will conquer all your enemies in battle.

Verse 4:
आदित्यहृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रुविनाशनम् |
जयावहं जपं नित्यमक्षयं परमं शिवम् ||

Translation:
The Aditya Hridayam (Heart of the Sun) is a sacred and purifying hymn,
which destroys all enemies and brings victory. Recite it daily as an imperishable, supreme, and auspicious chant.

Verse 5:
सर्वमंगलमांगल्यं सर्वपापप्रणाशनम् |
चिन्ताशोकप्रशमनम् मायुर्वर्धनमुत्तमम् ||

Translation:
It is the harbinger of all auspiciousness, the destroyer of all sins,
the pacifier of worries and sorrows, and the enhancer of intelligence and longevity.

Verse 6:
रश्मिमंतं समुद्यन्तं देवासुरनमस्कृतम् |
पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम् ||

Translation:
Praising the radiant and rising Sun, worshipped by gods and demons,
meditate upon and adore the resplendent Lord of the universe, the source of light.

Verse 7:
सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येष तेजस्वी रश्मिभावनः |
एष देवासुरगणाँल्लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः ||

Translation:
He is the soul of all gods, radiant and full of rays.
He pervades the gods and demons, protecting all the worlds with his intense brilliance.

Verse 8:
एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः |
महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः ||

Translation:
He is Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Skanda, and Prajapati.
He is also Mahendra, Kubera, Kala (Time), Yama, and Soma, the lord of the waters.

Verse 9:
पितरो वसवः साध्या अश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः |
वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाः प्राण ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः ||

Translation:
He is the ancestors (Pitaras), the Vasus, the Sadhyas, the Ashwini Kumaras, and the Maruts.
He is Vayu (the wind), Agni (fire), the progenitors, the life force (Prana), the creator of seasons, and the illuminator (Prabhakara).

Verse 10:
आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान् |
सुवर्णसदृशो भानुर्हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः ||

Translation:
He is Aditya, Savita, Surya, Khaga, Pusha, and Gabhastiman.
He is radiant like pure gold, the dispeller of darkness, the golden-hued, and the illuminator of the sky.

Verse 11:
हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चि: सप्तसप्तिमरीचिमान |
तिमिरोन्मन्थन: शम्भुस्त्वष्टा मार्ताण्डकोअंशुमान् ||

Translation:
He is Haridasva, Sahasrarchi (thousand-rayed), and Saptasapti (seven-seven).
He churns the darkness and manifests it as Shambhu, Twastha, Martanda, and Amshuman.

Verse 12:
हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरः स्तपनो भास्करो रविः |
अग्निगर्भोऽदिते: पुत्रः शंखः शिशिरनाशान: ||

Translation:
He is Hiranyagarbha, Shishira (cooling season), Tapana (heating season), Bhaskara (illuminator), and Ravi (sun).
He is the son of Aditi, born from the womb of Agni, and he dispels the cold of winter.
